Rockett & Vaillencourt awarded 2009 Jason Garfield Award
At the annual Marblehead Veterans Middle School Moving On Ceremony which took place on June 23rd, Tucker Rockett and William Vaillencourt were both presented with the Jason Garfield Award. The award was established by the Middle School faculty back in 1984 to honor the memory of the late Jason Garfield. It is given out to the student or students who have been faced with adversity during their middle school years and have shown inner strength and personal perseverance.
Tucker and William were each awarded achievement plaques by Joan MIller, 8th grade special education teacher, and were recognized by the entire 8th grade. Both students will be attending Marblehead High School in the Fall.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Katie Zarinsky was awarded with the Michael Snow Memorial Unsung Hero Award for the 2008-09 Marblehead Girls Varsity Hockey season.
Katie, a Swampscott native, earned this unsung hero award as a freshman center. Head Coach Emily Hudak was noted as saying "Katie showed very good ice vision, playmaking and hockey sense skills in her first year on the varsity. I look forward to the opportunity of coaching her and seeing her develop over the next three years".

The Fund made a construction donation to the Bud Orne Memorial Rink. This new facility is located at Green street and is still in the process of being completed. The rink will be a great venue to promote Marblehead Hockey for years to come.
Recently, The Rink Committee held the first Annual Bud Cup Winter Classic Championship with over 70 players participating.
The trophy is now on display at the Three Cod Tavern.

The Board of Trustees of the Morgan Stanley Foundation approved a grant of $1,300.00 to the Jason Garfield Scholarship Fund. The initiation of the grant was started by Morgan Stanley employee and Fund board of director - Reece "Bart" Rickards. We appreciate the support and confidence of the Morgan Stanley Foundation.

The Board of Directors approved a grant to Marblehead Youth Hockey for their 2008-09 season.
The grant is designed for the purpose of helping families afford the tuition costs associated with the MYHA and will be awarded by the President of the program.

In conjunction with the Marblehead Recreation, Parks & Forestry Department the Fund made a grant to construct an outdoor pavilion at Devereux Beach.
The pavilion was dedicated to the memory of Jason Garfield on July 21st and is for the enjoyment of the town's children and the enhancement of the beach area.

The award is given to 8th grade students who have been faced with adversity during their middle school years and have shown inner strength and personal perseverance.
The award was established by the leadership of the school in 1984.

The Fund was selected as one of two beneficiaries of a Bruins Alumni game versus the Marblehead Youth Hockey coaches which took place at Salem State.
The Marblehead Youth Hockey grant of $5,000.00 was the largest single monetary donation to the Fund to date.

June 1999 to June 2004
With the leadership of incoming president Wayne Attridge, the Fund organized six (6) Jaybird Golf Classic tournaments from 1999 to 2004 at Gannon Golf Course in Lynn, MA. These tournaments were a huge success with as many as 156 players participating in any given year.
